The second Festival of Dance and Movement ended yesterday with a closing concert and party headlined by local music act ‘Balkan Alien Sound’.
However, while the programme showcased a number of local acts, including Echo Echo’s own ensemble, there were also a number of interntaional acts on the billing.
Company Director Ailbe Beirne said, “It was great to get some top quality international acts in Derry performing.
“While our own ensemble are producing brilliant work that itself is strong enough to be showcased globally, it’s fantastic to have acts from further afield performing here.
“Our new building has the space to allow us to bring in top performers and the reaction from our audiences has been superb.
“Most of the performances were full houses and the classes and workshops were also well attended.
“The problem for us now is to keep the Festival going so that it becomes an annual programme for the city to enjoy.”
The programme for this year was also filled with diversity, as the Artistic Director of Echo Echo Dance Theatre Company, Steve batts, acknowledges.
“Echo Echo’s own performance work is known for its variety of style and approach and I realise that the programme we have created also has that diversity.
“We kept the general format of the festival from last year and have, primarily, invited artists and companies whose work we know well.”
