To celebrate the incredible range of cultural events taking place in Derry during 2013, Etihad Airways has teamed up with Culture Company 2013 to ‘Bring a Loved One Home for City of Culture’.
Etihad Airways will bring a member of a Derry family currently living abroad home for the City of Culture celebrations.
From February one winner will be flown from an Etihad Airways destination, such as Abu Dhabi, Sydney, Manila, Bangkok, India or South Africa, to Dublin airport. From there they will be transported to Derry by City of Culture’s Public Transport Partner Translink. The winner will also be offered tickets for themselves and their family to a City of Culture event of their choice.
City of Culture print media partners the Derry Journal and Londonderry Sentinel will profile each winner and their families, recording their visit, how they’re getting on abroad and their experiences at City of Culture.
Launching the competition, Shona McCarthy, Culture Company 2013 Chief Executive said: “News about the fantastic programme of events being staged in Derry~Londonderry has spread right across the globe, and that’s more than enough to make the diaspora feel homesick! To have the chance to be flown back home to see their families and have the pick of wonderful City of Culture events to attend is a trip they will never forget.”
It’s up to the friends and families at home in Derry to campaign for their loved ones to be flown back to Ireland from one of the Etihad Airways destinations, via a special ‘Bring A Loved One Home for City of Culture’ app available on the City of Culture Facebook page at www.facebook.com/cityofculture2013.
To enter your Derry loved one who is now living abroad for the competition, simply upload their picture onto the City of Culture Facebook app. Tell us in which Etihad Airways destination your loved one is currently living and what they’re doing there. Then pick the City of Culture event you would like to bring them home for and tell us why you think they should win the prize.
The competition is now open and entries will close on Wednesday March 13. The winner will be decided through a public, online vote on the City of Culture Facebook page. Please see www.cityofculture2013.com for further details.
