The death of the Foreglen GAC player from Ballykelly on August 29 left the GAA community stunned. O’Brien’s GAC, Foreglen, said they were “devastated” at the death of their player who was engaged, and was planning his wedding to his long term partner, fiancé Alana Doherty.

The Club, in a heartfelt tribute, described the talented young goalkeeper as “the most modest, quiet and unassuming young man”. On November 19, the O’Brien’s GAC hope other GAA clubs and members of the community will join them in a sponsored walk in Gary’s memory.

Foreglen GAC member, Greg McLaughlin, said: “Gary played for Foreglen for a long time and his death was tragic. He left a young family and we thought this would be a way to help support them. Gary is missed as a person, first and foremost. He was a lovely lad to work with and was a very talented player and he’s missed by the Club. We hope people will come out on the day and support us and remember Gary.”

Gary’s mum, Kathleen, said the family are greatly appreciative of the Club’s support and can’t thank them enough for everything they’ve done since Gary died.

The walk is at 11am on November 19th from Foreglen GAC, with refreshments afterwards. Later, at 9pm, there is an event in the clubhouse with live music.
