A Derry priest was admitted to hospital over the weekend after he sustained injuries when he fell from a roof.
Fr. Patrick O’Kane, Parish Priest of Ballymagroarty fell on Saturday afternoon and was admitted to Altnagelvin Hospital for observation.
It is understood he was attempting to repair a garage roof when he fell.
Fr. Michael Canny, Derry Diocesan spokesman told the Journal Fr. O’Kane was “in our thoughts and prayers and we wish him a very speedy recovery.”
Prayers were said over the weekend for Fr. O’Kane, who is very well known in both Derry and in Inishowen.
The Culdaff-born priest served as Parish Priest of the Inishowen town of Moville for two years before he was appointed to Holy Family Parish in Ballymagroarty. He was Parish Priest of Moville during the Golden Jubilee of St Puis X Church. In 2011, a homeless man Fr O’Kane gave shelter to subsequently robbed him. Fr. O’Kane said he bore no ill will to the man and urged him to turn his life around.
