The Foyle Women Information’s Network has launched their Christmas appeal for local families.

With impending welfare reform and job losses throughout the region Christmas can be a very difficult time for many local families.

Bearing this in mind the FWIN are once again launching a Christmas Appeal with a local emphasis.

“We are asking people to buy an extra present when Christmas shopping this year for families in need, for children aged 0 - 16 years,” said FWIN co-ordinator Catherine Cooke.

“You can drop in a single item, wrapped or unwrapped (stating clearly if it is for a boy or girl and what age group if it’s wrapped). If you prefer to drop in a ‘shoe box’ or gift bag, this will be fine as long as it is clearly labelled.”

Catherine Cooke continued:“For most of us Christmas is a wonderful time of year full of fun and happiness, however for some local families it’s a time of struggle and difficulty.

“We know from last year’s very successful Christmas Appeal that the need is definitely out there. Last Christmas we got a great response from local people and I have no doubt that the generosity of this city will once again come to the fore.”

If you wish to drop in a wrapped gift it is important to label it stating if it is for a boy or girl and what age they are: 0-2yrs, 3-5yrs, 6-10yrs, 10-12yrs, 13-14yrs and 15 -16yrs.

All gifts can be dropped off at: Holywell Building, 8 -14 Bishop Street, Derry.

The gifts will be distributed throughout the city by local charities. For further information contact FWIN on tel: 028 71 266 291 or email: info@fwin.org.uk
