Local people have been advised that there is still time to grab tickets for Thursday night’s appearance by the Beach Boys in Derry.

Household music legends, The Beach Boys are coming to Ebrington Square for their only tour date in Ireland on Thursday, with the concert kicking off at 7pm.

The US group are coming to Derry as part of the Legenderry Maritime Festival, and music fans have been urged to get their tickets now, before the show sells out.

Hawaiian shirts are expected to flood Ebrington Square this Thursday, as music lovers flock to watch the Boys belt out their classics, including “Surfin’ USA” and “ I Get Around”.

Over their 53-year-long career, they have sold in excess of 100 million albums world-wide, easily making them one of the most successful music acts ever, listed at number 12 of Rolling Stone magazine’s “100 Greatest Artists of All Time” list.

Alongside the Boys, local band John Deery and the Heads will open the concert at 7pm. They recently won a competition run by Derry City Council, for the opening slot of the concert, fighting off some fierce competition for the honour.

Music favourites, The Whistlin’ Donkeys will follow, with The Beach Boys taking the stage at around 9pm.

Due to the level of demand, Derry City Council have also permitted a small area, where concert-goers can bring their own fold-away chairs. However, concert goers e advised that this will only be a small designated area, and will be filled purely on first come-first served basis.

Anyone taking a chair is advised that this will affect their view. However, stewards will be on hand to provide assistance where necessary.

Derry City Council are also urging people to use city car parks, accessing the Ebrington site via the Peace Bridge. Foyleside East car park is open until midnight, and Quayside car park is open until 11.30pm. Parking is prohibited on St Columb’s Road for the concert.

Limavady Road Park and Ride will be available for concert goers at 5.45pm on Thursday, and again after the concert finishes.

Ebrington Square is fully accessible, and a number of disabled toilets will be available. There will also be a viewing platform for patrons with a disability, but this must be booked through the Box Office in advance.

Tickets are still available for the concert for £20 each (plus £1.50 booking fee), at the Millennium Forum Box Office, telephone 02871264455 or online at www.milleniumforum.co.uk.

Tickets are also available at Derry City’s Council Information Point in the Festival Village, and tickets can also be purchased on the night, at the venue.

Gates open at 6pm.
