Groarty speed limit decision will give '˜peace of mind' - Durkan

SDLP Foyle MLA Mark H Durkan has welcomed the decision that the speed limit outside Groarty Primary School on the Coshquin Road is to be reduced.

He was speaking after it was announced that the limit on the road is to be reduced from 60 miles per hour to 30 miles per hour by the end of this month.

Mr Durkan said: “Having been at the forefront of this campaign along with parents, school staff and party colleague Councillor John Boyle to have road safety measures implemented along this stretch of road, I am delighted that a possible resolution has been achieved.

“It is ridiculous and extremely dangerous to have any situation where a 60mph speed limit exists outside of a school.

“This decision will improve road safety and will give parents some peace of mind.

“I would remind motorists of the need to always drive at a safe speed and to be particularly careful in the proximity of schools.”
