Group calls for action on Dungiven bypass

A Dungiven Group are urging action on the Dungiven Bypass.

Commenting on the announcement by the Irish Government that they have postponed their part funding of the A5 road between Aughnacloy and Derry, Denis Hegarty, Chairman of Dungiven Bypass Committee, said “the Dungiven bypass must now be given priority”.

Mr Hegarty continued: “Given that the bypass project has been at the planning stage for over forty years and that the town is suffering health implications due to excessively high levels of nitrogen dioxide due to traffic congestion, action must be taken immediately. We are concerned that the infrastructure connecting the two primary cities in the North of Ireland are the worst of any region in the whole of Western Europe.”

“We call on all our MP, MLA’s, Councillors and all concerned to push for the early implementation of the Dungiven bypass scheme.”
