'˜Happy Days' for Rossmar pupils

The charity ‘Dance Wiggle’ fundraiser was for ‘Happy Days’, a charity which has been helping the school for several years.

R2 teacher, Carolyn Mussen said: “We are very grateful to Happy Days charity because most years they fund our trip to the Millennium Forum in Derry to see the pantomime at Christmas, and our children thoroughly enjoy that day out.

“They are very good to our children.

“Happy Days run a Dance Wiggle nationally and they ask people to join in on the sponsored event.

“Each year we run our own ‘Dance Wiggle’ for Happy Days and, so far, we have raised more than £450, so we are very grateful to all our parents and friends who have contributed to that.”

Ms Mussen said if it wasn’t for Happy Days some students would never get the chance to see the pantomime.

“Our children absolutely love getting to the pantomime, and some of them would not have the opportunity to do that outside of school so it’s important the school provides that opportunity for them,” she said.

Two students, Caitlin Carney and Caolan Guy-Gallagher raised close to £130 between them.

“The school has been running this for a while and we are so grateful to Happy Days. One of our students, Joe Haslett (pictured at left) in Buttercup Nursery, raised over a £100, so it’s wonderful to have the support.”

Ms Mussen said the school wants to thank Sarah McCulloch, a qualified dance instructor, who volunteered her time to lead our pupils in Hip Hop and Street Dance moves, which culminated in the whole primary department displaying their talents and new found pleasure for dance last Friday at the Wiggle grand finale.

Happy Days is a national children’s charity dedicated to providing vital respite breaks for individuals, families and groups who support children with additional needs. The charity helps young people, who range in age from three to 17.
