A unique charity initiative created by a local family will host its last ever event this weekend.
‘Tattoos are Good for the Heart’ is the brainchild of mum-of-two Hayley Doherty and it raises funds for the Children’s Heartbeat Trust.
Those taking part pay £30 for a small heart tattoo. £25 of this money goes straight to helping families of children born with congenital heart defects.
Hayley came up with the idea after her first child, son Dexter, was born in 2012 with a heart condition.
To date, the events have raised £14,500.
She says: “There are already 150 people booked in this weekend. As this is our final year, we will be taking walk-ins, too.
“There’s also raffle tickets and merchandise for sale for those who don’t want to participate in the tatooing.
“To date, over 400 people sport a little heart tattoo - a little heart with a big meaning.
“It’s also CHD Awareness Week so we are hoping to complete a balloon release at 3pm to represent all our heart warriors and angels - one in every 100 babies are born with a congenital heart defect.”
This year’s event takes place on Saturday, February 13, at Tattoo Studio 76 on Clooney Terrace from 10am-7pm.
