'˜Health is Wealth' event in Dungiven

Kevin Lynch Hurling club in Dungiven is celebrating its 50th anniversary and has planned a number of events to mark the year.

The next of these events, Health is Wealth, in conjunction with St Canice’s GAA club, takes place tomorrow from 12 noon to 3pm at the GAA club hall.

This event is free entry, however organisers say there will be a donation box for local charity, Glenshane Care Association in Dungiven, should anyone wish to donate.

Organisers say at this event there will be approximately 20 healthcare organisations, including Ulster GAA ‘Health is Wealth’, Blood Donation Registration, Rural Area Partnership in Derry (RAPID) Healthy Ageing Network, ASCERT – Alcohol & Drugs awareness, Healthy Food Value Team, Diabetes UK, Sperrin Smile Dental Care, Arthritis Care NI, Alzheimer’s Society, Action on Hearing Loss (BSL Interpreter will be in attendance), Early Years, Slimming World, Bodylogic Physiotherapy, Healing Hearts – Integrated Energy Therapy, Sole to Soul, Inner Beauty, MCDaid’s Chemist, Niamh Wellbeing, NI Transplant Association, Organ Donor Registration, Drink Wise Age Well with more exhibitors to be confirmed.

Additionally, the clubs are delighted to be able to offer Cardiac Screening from Healthy Hearts Healthy Lives, which is run by the McEntee brothers of Crossmaglen fame.

The Cardiac screen is the only item that has to be pre booked (open to both male & females between 14-35 and up to 40 if the person has an active lifestyle) there is a fee and it can be booked by contacting either the football/hurling club facebook or by contacting Brian on 07912105673.

Additionally, the hurling club is pleased to launch a competition open to all ages, to design a jersey to celebrate the 50th year of the club.

Entry forms are being given to all local schools and are available for club members, or to download an entry form please visit their facebook /website; the closing entry is the 12th June.

Other events throughout the year include a family fun day, the annual Festival of Hurling in July, and a Gala Dinner in November and there are tables/seats available for what the club says will be a fabulous night.
