The Western Health and Social Care Trust (Western Trust) is congratulating the success of Anne Friel, Head of Pharmacy and Medicines Management, at the annual Guild of Healthcare Pharmacists conference.

Anne received a special recognition award at the highly esteemed annual Guild of Healthcare Pharmacists conference, held in Leeds last week. She collected the Silver Medal award accolade for ‘Outstanding Contribution to Pharmacy’. Anne has been recognised for a variety of projects including developing pharmacy services in the Western Trust and Craigavon Area Hospital and developing new roles for Pharmacists to support the safe and appropriate use of medicines.

Speaking at the awards, Anne said: “I am overwhelmed and humbled to receive this award. It’s a wonderful accolade and I am hugely thankful to have been nominated and win. This award reflects the high standard of work and calibre of pharmacy services and pharmacy staff in the Western Trust.”

The award is presented each year to a Pharmacist who has made an outstanding contribution to practice and/or politics of hospital pharmacy at a local level. Individuals are nominated for the award by their peers.

Last year Anne won the Western Trust Chairman’s Award and the Leadership Award at the Trust’s Staff recognition awards. She was also made a Fellow of the Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland in November 2014.

Western Trust Chairman, Mr Gerard Guckian extended congratulations to Anne for her achievement on behalf of the Western Trust. He said: “My congratulations go to Anne for winning this prestigious UK Award. This is a remarkable personal achievement for her and is so well deserved.

“Anne has been recognised for her personal dedication and commitment to providing a first rate service to patients, putting patients and clients at the forefront of her work and inspiring her colleagues by her admirable leadership example.”
