Foyle Sinn Féin MLA Maeve McLaughlin is set to become the chair of the Assembly’s health committee at Stormont.

Ms McLaughlin will be named as the new chair at Stormont this morning, taking over from her party colleague, Sue Ramsey.

The Foyle MLA was co-opted onto the Assembly in June 2012 to replace Martina Anderson, who stepped down from Stormont to focus on her role as an MEP.

Ms McLaughlin, a former leader of the Sinn Féin group in Derry City Council, has been a member of the health committee since September 2012.

The move is expected to be announced at Stormont this morning.
