This is Limavady’s marathon man who is running 26 gruelling marathons in 26 days for charity!
Hugh McLaughlin. a 37-year-old actor, has set up base at Drumceatt Square in the town and, on the second day of his charity challenge, is doing well.
While running even one marathon is tough for many people, Hugh is relishing the challenge.
“For me failure is not an option,” he told the Journal, 12 miles into his second marathon.
“I will do this.”
Hugh, who is no stranger to treading the boards during panto season at Derry’s Millennium Forum says he chose Action Cancer because his 77-year-old dad, Hugh. Snr. recently beat bladder cancer.
“The money does work. They cured my dad,” he says, who added his dad, wife Tracey, and children and friends think he’s “nuts”.
“It’s probably the maddest thing I have ever done,” he says, running steadily at 5.7mph.
Supporting Hugh are Drumsurn GAC with the treadmill, Huey and Henderson Sports with all his running gear and JSAWP with the canopy to shield him from the elements.
