SDLP Foyle MLA and Chair of the All-Party Group on Disability, Pat Ramsey has questioned the Culture Minister on the lack of disabled people on public bodies. Speaking in the Assembly Chamber, Mr Ramsey asserted the importance that public bodies should be representative of all sections of the community.
Mr Ramsey said: “The question I put to the Minister comes off the back of a number of meetings I have had with disabled advocacy groups and disabled members of the public who feel that they are not adequately represented on public bodies.”
“The Northwest Forum of People with Disabilities in particular is rightly worried concerned that such an important segment of our community is so grossly underrepresented.
“Ensuring diversity, ethnic, religious, gender and disability is vital if we are to run organisations are to be truly representative of the public and if they are to effectively respond to the needs of the public
“I welcome the Ministers positive response to our request to meet and discuss the issue further. I look forward to working with her to remedy this imbalance.
