A Derry group are to travel to Rome next year for an historical event when the body of St Pio is moved to St Peter’s Basilica in Rome.

The body of the saint who is loved by millions across the world will be in Rome from February 8-14.

Pope Francis wanted his body to be in St Peter’s for Ash Wednesday (February 10) during the coming extraordinary holy year of mercy, the day when he will send out missionaries of mercy to the whole world giving them a special mandate to preach and confess.

On Febraury 13 Pope Francis will meet The Padre Pio Prayer Groups in a private audience.

The body of Saint Leopold of Mandic will also be in Saint Peter’s for Ash Wednesday.

The local Padre Pio Prayer group are organising a four day trip to the event in February 2016.

Meanwhile Father Marianus, Director of the Voice of Padre Pio will attend the Padre Pio celebrations at Knock from September 19-20, 2015.

There are still a few seats left for people who wish to attend the trip.

The next Padre Pio Mass will take place in Derry in St Patrick’s Church, Pennyburn on August 3 at 7.30 p.m.

Everyone welcome to attend.
