All relevant parties connected to Letterkenny General Hospital need to “get their heads together” and “figure out how to stop the current situation,” according to Donegal North East TD Padraig MacLochlainn.
Deputy MacLochlainn was speaking to the Journal as 40 people awaited beds at the hospital yesterday, Monday.
The Sinn Fein TD said he and his party colleagues recently met with representatives of the INMO to address the issue and discuss potential solutions.
He said that the INMO pointed out how,as well as staffing issues, there was also the issue of health infrastructure, the need to have the necessary beds in community hospitals as well as aftercare for those patients.
Deputy MacLochlainn said the current situation regarding beds at Letterkenny General Hospital was “appalling.”
“Sick people don’t want to be lying on a trolley waiting on a bed. Their dignity is taken away and that’s unacceptable.”
He added: “This needs to stop.”
