Huge turnout expected for the funeral of Paddy ‘Bogside’ Doherty

The veteran civil rights activist Paddy Doherty, who was better known as Paddy Bogside, passed away after a period of illness pictured at Free Derry Corner.
The veteran civil rights activist Paddy Doherty, who was better known as Paddy Bogside, passed away after a period of illness pictured at Free Derry Corner.

A huge turnout is expected for the funeral of Paddy ‘Bogside’ Doherty who sadly passed away in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Mr Doherty passed away peacefully at his home at Westland Street. He was in his 90th year.

Mr Doherty leaves behind his wife Eileen and children John, Hugh, Declan, Kieran, Brendan, Eileen, Kathleen, PaddyAnn, Kevin, Fiona, Nuala. Mr Doherty was pre-deceased by another daughter, Doreen.

The wake is taking place at his home and Mr Doherty’s remains will be removed from his home at 11.45am on Sunday morning before travelling the short distance to St Eugene’s Cathedral for Mass at 12.30pm.

Interment will take place afterwards at the City Cemetery.
