Hugely popular '˜LiveCrib' back in Dungiven
A group of young graduates determined to revitalise Dungiven are to reprise the '˜Live Crib' that proved such a success in the town last Christmas.
The crib, which was a hugely popular Christmas feature last year, will be reanimated on December 11, thanks to the rota of local volunteers who have already signed up to be involved.
Stacey McGrath, of Project Fusion, the group behind the initiative, said that within a day of posting on Facebook that the ‘Live Crib’ could not take place due to a lack of volunteers, they were inundated with offers of support and pleas to keep the event going for another year.
“This was especially fitting as community and Christian faith was the message of their event last year,” said Stacey.
“The ‘Live Crib’ in December 2015 was a huge success. It featured local families, clubs and organisations recreating the nativity scene, including live animals and young babies in the manger in the role of baby Jesus.
“There was live music from local musicians and schools, choirs representing the different churches in the town and a signed choir from ‘Hands that Talk’.
“Market stalls were busy with local artists, businesses and bakers selling their wares. The aim of the event was to bring the wider community together to celebrate the Christian message of Christmas and to showcase the talent in the town and surrounding areas,” she added.
Ms McGrath explained that there was a significant amount of work and organisation in bringing everything together.
But, she said, it was all worthwhile and helped fulfil Project Fusion’s mission of creating a vibrant Dungiven.
“It all paid off when you watched the bustling of the people around the stalls, observing people’s quiet reflection at the nativity scene and people enjoying the musical entertainment,” she said. “There was such a big turn out that many of the stalls found they quickly sold out of items and many had to restock. The ‘Live Crib’ will take place this year again on December 11 and the goal is to make it even bigger and better. We have some special plans for the event so keep an eye out for advertisements closer to the time.”
