Images of local woman used to create false dating profiles

Well-known musician and model, Jilly St John, has had her images used to create false profiles on a number of dating sites.

The sites show people pretending to be Jilly, as they connect with other users looking for a date.

Speaking to the ‘Journal’ she said it was something she knew “could happen” but that it was disconcerting when it happened to her.

She continued: “Someone I know spotted this profile and thought they were speaking to me, but soon came to the realisation that it wasn’t me.

“Having a public figure page on Facebook, I knew this could happen and it is sometimes a case of it being the name of the game.

“The details they have are very sketchy but if they got very personal I would definitely be much more concerned.

“However, I’ve contacted the sites to have the details removed immediately.

“It’s strange to think someone is out there pretending to be me.”

Giving some sage advice about online profiles generally Jilly said. “Keep it light. Don’t put all of your personal life on Facebook. I’m also an advocate of real-life dating. But if you are meeting someone you’ve met online always tell someone you know the details of who you’re meeting, and where,” she added.
