Chairman of Inishowen Tourism, John McGuinness said yesterday he was ‘very happy’ to report a fantastic year for the peninsula

In the midst of much economic doom and gloom statistics released to the ‘Journal’ revealed visitor numbers to Inishowen Tourism Information Offices increasing by a staggering 50% during the summer season compared to the corresponding period last year.

In their end of season report further statistics indicate an overall yearly increase of 32% on visitor traffic through Inishowen Tourism offices compared to 2012.

And the 2013 seasonsaw an increase in both domestic and international visitors to the peninsula with an increase in figures across all nationalities but in particular Australian and German.

During the ‘My Inishowen’ marketing campaign there was also a significant rise in visits to the tourism website which saw a 44% increase in activity and a significant increase in followers on social media outlets.

Breda Mc Gonigle, Sales and Marketing Manager at the Ballyliffin Lodge & Spa said “2013 has been a very successful year for us, with every sector in the hotel experiencing a busier year this year, with a significant increase in our accommodation and wedding .

Ms McGonigle added: “The hard work done by Inishowen Tourism has definitely had a beneficial spin off effect for us.”
