Inishowen hit by flooding

A massive thunderstorm led to flooding across Inishowen last night, August 5th, with the areas of Burnfoot and Bridgend particularly affected.

The heavy rainfall, which occurred over a short period of time at around 7pm, led to a landslide at the Rockhead in Burnfoot, blocking a section of the main Derry to Buncrana road.

There was some traffic disruption, as mud cascaded down an embankment and across the busy road. Donegal County Council were on the scene quickly and traffic was moving as normal in a relatively short period of time.

A road at Elaghbeg, between Burnfoot and Bridgend, was also badly flooded and water poured into the street of the home belonging to Donegal County Councillor John Ryan.

While the water was high, it is understood it narrowly avoided pouring into the house itself.

There was also heavy flooding near the 19th Bar in Bridgend and also at Buncrana’s Aghilly road.
