It has been confirmed Visitor numbers to Inishowen Tourisms Information Offices increased by a staggering 50% this year on the corresponding period last year.

Yesterday Jennifer O’Donnell, City of Culture and Trade Liaison Officer with Inishowen Tourism said there had also been a remarkable increase in the number of international visitors to the peninsula particular a 36% rise in Australian visitors and a 38% rise in German visitors.

Speaking with the Journal Ms. O’Donnell said it was a ‘good news story’ in the midst of much economic doom and gloom.

Asked why this was so she explained: “ ‘My Inishowen’ digital and national marketing campaign was probably key.

“The ‘My Inishowen’ campaign included TV, radio and print advertising and as a result we believe this contributed towards the 64% increase in domestic visitors during this period and in addition there has also been a significant rise in visits to the tourism website and followers on social media outlets.

“Figures show an average of 300k weekly reach during this spring/summer promotional campaign.

Ms O’Donnell added: “This campaign also developed the Visit Inishowen Facebook community to a level of 15,000+ people which is of the largest Facebook profiles in the Northwest and will reach on average 50k people on a weekly basis.”

Local businesses also confirmed a very positive increase in trade after years of serious decline in numbers.
