Inishowen in for a '˜wild' time as Earagail Fest heads north

North Inishowen will be among the main staging posts when this year's Earagail Arts Festival arrives in the area.

Much of the action will be centred around the Village Green in Malin with a Wild Atlantic Weekend planned on Saturday and Sunday, July 23 and 24 from 12.30pm to 5.30pm each day.

The Village Fair will see a kaleidoscopic blend of street art, circus activities and music being staged.

Among those scheduled to attend are the Lords of Strut comedy duo, along with street artist Lulu, who has promised to create a whole new world of make believe.

The Fanzini Recording Company will in town with their Circus Jukebox, with the audience choosing who plays and who stays on the stage.

Inishowen Carnival meanwhile will present the Percussion Boat, a steampunk airship with a four-piece band playing classic rock alongside sounds created from household machinery and materials.

Music wise, Malin’s own The Henry Girls will be staging a Wild Atlantic World gig at the Circus Tent in the Village Green on Friday July 22 at 8pm, tickets 15e/ 12e. The concert is being hosted by the Festival in association with Malin Development Committee.

In Culdaff meanwhile, Saturday July 23 will see a striking new collaboration between four artists, unveiled at McGrory’s.

‘In the Shadow of Steam’ is a specially commissioned piece tracing the lost railway lines of Donegal and the north.

The artists, Hannah Peel, Erland Cooper, Michael Keeney and Tommy McLaughlin , will be showcasing their work at 8pm, tickets 15e/12e.

The following night the same venue will host Mali artist Vieux Faraka Toure and Donegal folk duo Without Willow, tickets 18e/15e.

The Living Landscape aspect of Earagail Arts festival will include a guided cultural walk at Inishowen Head, meeting at the carpark there, north of Stroove Lighthouse, on Saturday July 23 at 10am. Price 15e.
