Heather Causer, Volunteer Development Manager at Diabetes UK Northern Ireland said: “Hilary goes above and beyond her role as a Diabetic Specialist Nurse as she takes a personal interest in the condition and local people who live with it. Hilary is always on hand to support our local group and their fundraising efforts, from helping out at coffee mornings to those all-important chats with people she meets to raise awareness about diabetes. Her help and support are very much appreciated and valued. Getting through the regional awards to the national UK Inspire Awards ceremony is a massive achievement.”

Hilary was honoured at the Northern Ireland Inspire Awards in February. As a result of winning that award Hilary was nominated for the national award ceremony taking place in London. Hilary says being an active volunteer with the Limavady group is a role she says she says she is honoured to have.

“It was the group that nominated me for the award and I’m honoured and privileged to receive it,” she said of the regional award. “I hope it inspires others to give up their spare time and volunteer.”

Diabetes UK has 23 local support groups, including Limavady Diabetes Support Group meets at LCDI Roe valley Hospital. Meetings are on the third Monday of the month at 7.30pm. Call 028 9066 6646 for information.
