Former Derry City star James McClean has received wonderful news to make up for any disappointment at being denied a dream move to Celtic - he is about to become a father for the second time.

The in-form Wigan left winger was locked in talks about a loan move to Celtic on transfer deadline day, but his club would not agree to the switch.

But any disappointment will have been short-lived as it has emerged that the Republic of Ireland international’s partner is pregnant with their second child.

James McClean’s sister Mary-Jane posted on Facebook that the family were over-joyed at the news.

She said: “Well guys it’s finally out a big congrats to my big bro & sister in law to be that they’re expecting their 2nd little bundle of joy - our wee Allie Mae is going to be a big sister. Yous are amazing parents & your wee family is complete love yous & can’t wait to meet the new wee addition to the family”.

Erin Connor gave birth to their first child, a baby girl who they named Allie Mae in December 2013.

McClean tweeted at the time: “Wee baby girl allie-mae mcclean born 6.9 at 1.15 both mammy @Erineyy and baby are good proudest day of my life #daddysgirl #overwhelmed”

The down-to-earth star has never forgotten his roots, and has been involved in a number of charitable initiatives for which he has not sought publicity.

He also attends the Brandywell and training sessions with former Derry City colleagues whenever he is back in his home town.
