Johanna secures California accolade with new release

Local singer-songwriter Johanna Fegan has said she is delighted to have come out on top at a prestigious music award ceremony in America.

The artist’s recently released EP, Cutting Out The Noise, has been named Best Alternative Rock EP this month at the Californian Akedemia Awards.

Speaking about the accolade, Johanna said she found out about the awards while promoting her new work to US radio stations.

“I am buzzing,” she said. “I am on this nice wee wave length about it.

“This will help with getting my work out there.”
But Johanna is already seeing her star rise on the back of her musical and song writing abilities, with the growing fanbase evident via her Facebook page and a steady flow of e-mail inquiries coming in.

Johanna’s new EP has already drawing comparisons with the likes of Patti Smith.

No stranger to the live music scene around Derry and Inishowen, Johanna has performed regularly at local venues as well as nationally and internationally.

Her new EP has been released via jOjO’Star and showcases Johanna’s drive, energy and punk delivery. She has sold thousands of CDs locally and thousands more across Ireland.

Johanna will be performing with her band Suspect Device during an alternative Pride celebration at Amelia’s Lounge (formerly Dodd’s Bar on the Foyle Road) this Saturday,A August 27.

The raggae-themed event will also feature comedy and spoken word artists and entry on the night is free.
