Julie Ann Coll is Derry's Woman of the Year 2016

A woman who set up a support group to help parents in the city who have lost a baby, has tonight been named Derry's Woman of the Year 2016.

Mother of four Julie-Ann Coll, was nominated for the award by her mother Catherine.

Julie-Ann Coll set up Life After Loss to provide information and support to those who have been through the death of a baby at any stage of pregnancy, or early in life, for any reason.

The group now meet monthly at the Holywell Trust.

The Derry woman knows only too well the pain and trauma of losing a child and she has turned that grief and pain into a drive to help others.

Julie Ann’s son Mark William Ian, was delivered at 22 weeks and did not survive.

Now, Julie-Ann and her family remember him by visiting his grave, releasing balloons on his anniversary and talking about the brother her other children did not meet.

A large group of women gathered at the City Hotel tonight for the annual Women of the Year awards.
