Hundreds of fans of Scottish comedian, Kevin Bridges, were left angry after a woman shouting abuse forced the entertainer to walk off stage in the Millennium Forum on Friday night.
Friday evening’s stand-up concert was the 28 year-old comedian’s first of five dates in Derry, his final show is tonight.
The ‘Journal’ understands the woman started heckling Bridges 15 minutes after the show began and continued to do so until she was eventually asked to leave by staff working in the Millennium Forum.
“I was at Friday’s show and was in the same row as the girl [who caused the incident]. From the minute she sat down she was a nuisance. I was surprised Kevin [Bridges] lasted as long as he did before he asked her to leave,” said Denise Kelly.
“Worst night ever at the Millennium Forum. People in and out all night for drink and smoking. What happened to doors being closed when the show started and kept closed until the interval?,” asked Sandra McGrory.
Christy McColgan commented on the story on the ‘Journal’ Facebook page and said he believed the Millennium Forum should try and learn lessons from the incident.
“A heckler in the Forum ruined Christy Moore a few years back too, it was left to the crowd to deal with it as staff didn’t want to know.
“The Forum need a clear policy on alcohol as the ones who cannot handle their drink ruin it for everyone else,” he said.
David McLaughlin, Chief Executive of the Millennium Forum confirmed what happened to the ‘Journal’ and described the incident as “disappointing”.
“We appreciate patrons’ respect for each other and the artist on stage and it was disappointing that one member of the audience did not extend this courtesy on Friday evening. We take all feedback on board and work hard to ensure all our patrons and performers enjoy their experience at our venue,” he said.
“The Millennium Forum welcomes top comedian, Kevin Bridges, to our venue for five sold out nights,” he said.
“Kevin Bridges continues his sell-out gigs to much positive feedback from Derry audiences.”
Bridges started his five night stint in Derry and will take to the stage in the Millennium Forum again on Monday and Tuesday evening.
The ‘Journal’ contacted Kevin Bridges’ management company for a comment but they had not replied at the time of going to print.
