Limavady councillor Aaron Callan quits the UUP
Limavady councillor Aaron Callan has resigned from the Ulster Unionist Party, the '˜Journal' has learned.
It’s understood Mr. Callan, who attended the monthly meeting of Causeway Coast & Glens Borough Council last night, will join the DUP.
Reacting to the resignation of Aaron Callan, the Ulster Unionist Party have made the following statement: “We have built our success in recent years on teamwork.
“On that basis Councillor Callan is unlikely to be missed.”
Mr. Callan was elected to Causeway Coast & Glens Borough Council in 2014, one of the youngest councillors elected to local politics that year.
Earlier this year, Mr. Callan had called for the name of the Roe Valley Arts & Cultural Centre to be changed, which the UUP later moved to withdraw.
Addressing the UUP conference three years ago, Mr Callan said he was “proud to say I am an Ulster Unionist”.
The ‘Journal’ has made attempts to speak with Mr. Callan, but has been unable to do so as yet.
