A 22-year-old Limavady man caught in possession of a Class B drug was going through “an experimental phase”, a court has heard.
Damien James Anthony Nicholson of Gorteen Crescent was sentenced at Limavady Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
The court heard on March 14 police searched an address in Limavady and that Nicholson handed police a small bag.
The court heard the bag contained 0.5 grams of herbal cannabis that had a street value of £5.
During interview Nicholson admitted to police the drugs were his and were for his own personal use.
Defence solicitor Paddy McGurk told the court there was nothing to suggest any previous drug use”, that it was “an extremely small amount” and that it was “an experimental phase with cannabis” for Nicholson.
“This has put an end to that,” said Mr McGurk.
Nicholson was fined £250 and must pay an £15 offender levy.
