Residents are angry at parking like this on Rossair Road .

The residents say drivers, when using the Health Centre on Rossair Road, park on the road and frequently abandon their vehicles in front of their homes.

Speaking on behalf of residents from Melody Way and Minstrel Way, one resident, who preferred not to be named said: “Some days you can’t get in or out at all. You could drive over your lawn but sure who would do that? There was one day I was blocked in for an hour and a half and I couldn’t get out to pick up my mum. There are days people drive right up to your front window and look in at you like it’s a zoo. It’s like you’re a prisoner in your own home. It’s madness.”

Meetings with residents, politicians, PSNI, Roads Service officials and representatives from the Health Centre have been held in recent months.

“The amount of near misses I’ve seen. Some days it’s just a free-for-all. Somebody will be badly injured or killed. I thought to myself, if that happens and I don’t speak out I’ll never forgive myself.

“I had to do something,” added the resident, who urged drivers to think of residents and emergency vehicles which require access.

The ‘Journal’ contacted Rossair Family Practice and Bovally Medical Centre. Other than confirming a meeting with residents had been held, spokespersons for both practices said they did not wish to comment further.

DUP MLA, George Robinson has met with residents in a bid to resolve the problem.

“It’s disappointing that no solution has been found following on-site meetings over recent years involving TransportNI, the PSNI and the practices,”

“I would again encourage patients using the medical facility to be mindful of local residents, some of whom find it a struggle to exit and enter their properties,” he said.
