St Vincent de Paul and the Salvation Army both received over £3,500 from the Limavady Rotary Club raised through donations to the Christmas Tree of Remembrance and the recent International Charity Breakfast, both annual events.

Limavady Rotary Club president Mary McCloskey said: “If it were not for the local generosity in Limavady in the Roe Valley, we wouldn’t be able to help these worthy charities. ”

Jim Herron from St. Vincent de Paul said the donation can be used as cash assistance, fuel, education and uniforms for families. He said the donation is “fantastic”.

“Outside the church gates collections, they’re our biggest benefactor. We just wouldn’t get that kind of donation from anyone else. Over the last few years, the Rotary Club has identified local charities and that’s fantastic for us because they know where the money is going. The other thing is the Rotary Club is cross community and the St Vincent de Paul and The Salvation Army helps everyone,” said Mr. Herron.

Captain Joan Archibald from The Salvation Army said the donation is “greatly appreciated”. “The donation will help the Salvation Army reach out to the community with practical help through helping with food, heat and supporting families locally,” said Ms Archibald.

“It’s very much appreciated and not taken for granted.”

In addition, £2,000 is being used to help supply sanitation and water to the LA Mongo School in Western Kenya on the border with Tanzania.
