Linking Boston, Derry and Donegal

Donegal County Council Library Service, Libraries NI and The Irish Cultural Centre of New England in Boston are working together on a project called ‘A Celebration of Colmcille’.

The project is based on the One Book One Community concept which aims to connect people through reading the same book and discussing their views on that book. The book chosen is called The Chronicles of Iona: Exile by Paula De Fougerolles and it tells the story of the Irish Saint Colmcille’s exile to Iona in 563 and his developing relationship with Scottish warrior Aedan McGabran. The project will be launched in Derry Central Library on Wednesday the 5th of June at 7.00pm.

Director of Service with Donegal County Council Michael O’ hEanaigh said ‘The themes in exile are perfect for connecting Donegal people across the globe and in the year of The Gathering and the City of Culture in Derry it is an opportune time to reach out to our Diaspora.”
