A Creggan Sinn Féin councillor has lashed “dangerous gun gangs” for leaving live ammunition on a street in the estate.
Colr. Kevin Campbell made the comment after a woman discovered a live round of ammunition on the street in Rathmore Road yesterday morning.
She then handed the bullet to colr. Campbell who later passed it on to the PSNI.
The Creggan councillor said: “She found the round lying on the street and didn’t know what to do with it and contacted me. It is outrageous that dangerous objects like this are left lying around for anyone to find.
“There are dangerous gun gangs running around who are obviously so reckless that they are dropping live ammunition in the streets.” Colr. Campbell said it was lucky the bullet was not found by a child. “This is an area with many children and it could easily have been a child who found this. Children, by their nature, are very curious, particularly about things like this and they might not have been aware of the danger involved,” he said.
