“I would like to thank the staff from the TRIAX Management Team based at the Gasyard and members of Ógra Shinn Féin for carrying out this work within a very short time frame.

“Hopefully this work will alleviate some of the problems being encountered by residents.”

Caolán McGinley meanwhile said: “We are pleased to have been able to help the residents out.

“Hopefully now they will be able to access their homes from the lane way which was in a terrible state prior to this clean up.”

The clean up is the latest in a series across the area.

A programme of refurbishment work was recently undertaken recently to address concerns over the state of the Beechwood Steps in Derry.

Some residents had reported health and safety concerns, particularly for local people trying to negotiate the steps.
