The grant from the Big Lottery Fund’s Awards for All programme will be used to deliver a co-ordinated programme over a six-month period that will see young people engaged in activities on weekly basis.

Raymond O’Hara from Greysteel Community Association says it’s good news for the community. He’s positive the programme will encourage local youths “to take pride in the community where they live”.

“The young people will have a sense of ownership in their community and have positive activities to engage in. Getting the young people off the streets to a safe and secure environment will benefit the whole community. In recent times there has been increased incidents of anti-social behaviour and youths causing annoyance and our primary role with this project is to reduce this occurrence and improve community infrastructure,” said Mr O’Hara.

“The central location for our project will be our community centre in Greysteel, with programmes and team building events being mainly located in the village or local to the area.”

Joanne McDowell, Big Lottery Fund NI Director, said: “The application process is simple and accessible and shall remain so, making it easy for applicants to successfully apply for small pots of funding that can have such a big impact on local communities and lives.”
