Eight guns were seized and three men arrested during what the PSNI have described as a “major operation against RAAD” in the Creggan area of the city.
A number of houses were searched during the operation, which began at around 10pm on Thursday.
A PSNI spokesperson said; “Police have arrested three men following a series of searches in the Derry area overnight. A total of eight suspected firearms and other items likely to be of use to terrorists were recovered.
“Police conducting the searches came under attack from youths throwing stones and petrol bombs at several of the search locations. The three arrested men were taken to Antrim Serious Crime Suite where they remain helping the police with their enquiries.”
