A Limavady man “who took a chance” stealing a pair of slippers priced at £4 has been fined £100.
Brandon James Wallace, with an address at Kennaught Terrace, was fined at Limavady Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday for the theft.
The court heard at 5pm on October 21, 2014 there was a report of a theft from Tesco in Limavady. Security were spoken to and CCTV footage was viewed. The footage showed Wallace covering the slippers, leaving the store with them without paying. When Wallace later viewed the footage, he admitted the offence.
A defence solicitor said Wallace pleaded guilty at the first opportunity. He explained the 28-year-old had gone into the store to do his regular shop. He said Wallace intended to pay for the slippers but, as he approached the checkout, he realised he didn’t have enough money and “he took a chance”.
Wallace was also ordered to pay £4 compensation to Tesco for the slippers.
