Yesterday marked the start of Congenital Heart Defects Week and local mum Hayley Doherty is hosting a charity event on Saturday to raise funds for the Children’s Heartbeat Trust.

Taking place at Studio 76 on Clooney Terrace, the event is entitled ‘Tattoos are Good for the Heart’ and people can get a heart tattoo in red or black for £30, with £25 going straight to the charity.

The event is also gaining support from others, with a tattoo studio in Manchester, ST Ink, agreeing to do hearts on the day and add their total to the final amount.

Hayley said, “We are overwhelmed at the support we have locally, with 160 people currently signed up to get a heart tattoo. But to have support in Manchester too is brilliant. Every penny raised goes towards helping families of young people born with heart defects.

“I don’t think people realise how common CHD is, as it affects 1 in 100 babies.

“Thankfully our son Dexter is doing really well but it never gets any easier as a heart parent. The worry is always there.”

To book in for a tattoo you can contact Hayley on the ‘Tattoos are good for the heart’ Facebook page.
