The Mandarin Palace, one of Derry’s most popular Chinese restaurants, will re-open its takeaway today, after fire gutted the premises in March.

The opening of the takeaway is the first step in rebuilding the restaurant and takeaway manager Ursula Mullen said she and her staff were “delighted to be able to get back to work”.

“We are so excited - it has been all go. This is our first step to getting open and hopefully being able to bring all our staff back to work.”

Ursula said the March fire, which started accidentally in the restaurant kitchen, had been devastating for all concerned.

But she added that support of the Derry and Donegal public has been outstanding.

“People have been great - asking when we will open again and asking after the staff.

“We hope to get as many of our old customers back as possible when we re-open today - and maybe a few new ones as well.”

The Mandarin Palace takeaway opens for business again today at 4pm and can be reached on 71264613.
