Expressing her heartfelt sympathy to the people of France following the attack in Nice, which has claimed the lives of more than 80 people and injured hundreds, the Mayor said the Book of Condolence would allow the public to express their sympathy and show support.

“On behalf of the people of the city and district, I would like to extend our heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the people of France following the indiscriminate act of terror that was inflicted on the people of Nice who were out and about enjoying what should have been a day of celebration. The Mayor added: “I am also aware that there are many people from our own city and district who are holidaying in the area at this time and I sincerely hope that all the local families will soon have reassurance from their loved ones as to their safety.

“All of us in Northern Ireland are aware of the devastation of terrorism and the impact it has on communities and I utterly condemn this act of violence that has resulted in such carnage and devastation and I would urge the public to come into the Guildhall this week and show their support by signing the Book of Condolence,” she said.
