Colr. McClintock is from Drumahoe in the Waterside area of the city and is due to be unveiled as Derry and Strabane’s First Citizen at the Council’s Annual General Meeting in the Guildhall next Monday evening.

Colr. McClintock replaces Sinn Fein Councillor Elisha McCallion who was Mayor from April last year.

Colr. McClintock has worked in the community and voluntary sector with the Waterside Area Partnership for 13 years.

Before taking up a role within the community, Colr. McClintock worked for the Western Education and Library Board’s Woodland Language Unit for 15 years.

Colr. McClintock is also a former pupil of Foyle College and a member of her local Presbyterian Church. She has been a councillor since 2014.

SDLP Councillor, Jim McKeever, has been nominated by his party to replace Thomas Kerrigan as Deputy Mayor.

“I am honoured to have been selected by the SDLP to serve as Deputy Mayor for all the people of Derry and Strabane District Council and I look forward to working with our incoming Mayor Hilary McClintock to address the needs of all of our people,” said Colr. McKeever.

“Our council area continues to see the worst figures in regards to unemployment and economic inactivity and this is the major challenge facing public representatives.

“Our people are rightly worried about the continued stagnation of our local economy and continued mass emigration of our best and brightest young people,” he added.
