McGuinness calls for Paisley prayers

Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness has called for prayers for former First Minister Ian Paisley, who is currently ill in hospital. Mr McGuinness, who forged a close relationship with the former DUP leader in recent years, made the call after Ian Paisley was taken into hospital last weekend with suspected heart failure.

85 year-old Mr Paisley has been in intensive care at the Ulster Hospital since Sunday and is understood to be in a serious condition.

Mr McGuinness has contacted the Paisley family to offer his support.

In a statement, the Office of the First and Deputy First Minister said; “The First Minister and the deputy First Minister have both been in contact with the Paisley family.

“They have offered their best wishes to Dr Paisley and his family and call on the community to give prayerful support to Ian and his family at this time.

“The First Minister and the deputy First Minister would appeal for the Paisley family to be given the space and privacy they deserve and that their wishes are respected.”
