Sinn Fein MLA for Foyle, Maeve McLaughlin, joined members of union, Unison, on the picket line on Friday morning.
Many public sector workers are taking part in the ‘Day of Action’ right across the North.
The workers are protesting over planned cuts to public services.
“I was delighted to join members of Unison on the picket line on Friday,” said Ms. McLaughlin.
“These cuts are essentially coming from Westminster - £1.5b has been cut from the block grant here.
“We are against austerity and that’s why I came out to join the Unison members on strike against Tory cuts,” she said.
The ‘Day of Action’ will last for 24 hours.
