The Sinn Fein MLA for Foyle met with some of the Ireland players, including Creggan born McClean, before the game.

“It was a fantastic occasion and an incredible performance from the players and the fans who created a tremendous atmosphere from start to finish.”

Mr. McGuinness also made sure to praise Ireland manager and former St. Columb’s College pupil, James McClean.

“The Derry lads in particular did us proud,” said Mr. McGuinness.

“James McLean had the game of his life while Shane Duffy was simply immense at the back. And of course, we have Martin O’Neill at the helm so I think Derry can rightly stake a claim to playing a huge part in this famous victory.”
