SDLP MLA for Foyle, Mark H Durkan, has secured funding that will go towards the creation of a proposed Strathfoyle play park and is calling on Derry City and Strabane District Council (DCSDC) to make the project a priority.
Mr Durkan announced on Monday that he had written to DCSDC providing details of a funding package for the proposed creation of the play park.
Mr Durkan also wrote to the DSD Minister, Mervyn Storey, in August to request funding towards the creation of play park facilities in Strathfoyle.
Minister Storey has committed to endeavour to source funding of up to £50,000 from the Neighbourhood Renewal Programme budget which provides support towards some of the most disadvantaged areas in the North.
“I was delighted to obtain this assurance from Minister Storey, having spoken to him about the Strathfoyle play park saga several times,” said Mr. Durkan.
“I have also secured £50,000 within my own department’s budget and £50,000 from a private company. I have therefore written to council and informed them of the £150,000 funding and hope that this additional support will help them get this project over the line.”
Mr Durkan added: “This is an issue which I have been working on for quite some time now and I am pleased to have been able to put together a funding package to assist in delivering what is a much-needed facility in the Strathfoyle community.”
