MLAs meet minister over Regional College cuts

A cross party delegation of MLAs from Derry have met the employment and learning minister amid concerns about jobs and courses at the North West Regional College.

Sinn Féin MLAs Martina Anderson and Raymond McCartney, SDLP Assembly member Pat Ramsey and DUP representative William Hay met Danny Kennedy yesterday to call for plans for compulsory redundancies at the College to be shelved.

The MLAs also raised concerns about plans to scrap the HND computing course and the entry criteria for the foundation level course.

Ms Anderson said: “We told the minister that the plans do not fit with the regeneration plans, particularly the digital Derry aspects. Courses should not be beyond the reach of anyone in this city.”
