Mother of murdered Buncrana woman pays tribute to her daughter
The mother of murdered Buncrana woman, Danielle McLaughlin, has said her daughter will be 'sadly missed'.
The 28 year-old’s naked body was discovered by a local farmer in a field in Canacona, a popular tourist resort in Goa.
In a written statement issued by a friend, Andrea Brannigan thanked everyone for their sympathy messages at what she described as a “trying time”.
“As you can expect we are finding it very difficult at this trying time.
“We want to thank the Irish and British consulates, along with Colin from the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust, and many friends who have assisted at this time. Danielle will be sadly missed by us all.”
Suresh Velip, head constable at Goa Police, said a 24-year-old Indian man remains in custody after being arrested on suspicion of murder.
Meanwhile, Sinn Féin Senator Pádraig Mac Lochlainn has requested that the media respect the privacy of the family.
Senator Mac Lochlainn made this appeal after meeting with the family in Buncrana on Wednesday.
“The people of Buncrana and Inishowen are united in grief with the McLaughlin family at the loss of their daughter and sister. This is a tragic loss and Danielle is in all of our thoughts and prayers.
“On meeting with the family earlier, they had one request and that was that their privacy be respected. Media outlets from Ireland and further afield have been bombarding the family with messages and queries and I strongly believe that this is unwarranted and inappropriate at this time.
“The McLaughlin family must be given room and come to terms with their loss and they will come forward when they feel it is time.”
