Tickets for the MTV DJ event to be held at Ebrington Square in August went on sale this morning.
The line-up is, as yet, unannounced but that did not stop large numbers of dance fans queuing for hours for the coveted tickets which sold for £24.50 each from 9am.
Everyone who queued at the Ticketmaster outlet in Foyleside managed to get their hands on a coveted ticket.
Local dad Ryan Hamilton had been queuing since 1pm on Friday - a total of 20 hours - to get tickets for his kids and their friends.
Speaking to the ‘Journal’ after he secured the tickets he said, “Everyone was allowed eight tickets and I got all eight. My kids will be delighted. It was a long stand but events like this don’t happen in Derry often so it was worth it.”
Abbie Hillen and Gavin McCleary, both 15, had queued since 3pm on Friday.
“Nine of us queued together.
“MTV coming is good for Derry - we definitely want to see more of concerts and events here.
“It’s not as busy as last year but that’s because the price is higher and the acts aren’t announced yet.
“Once the acts are announced some people will sell their tickets but others will be looking for them.
“We don’t care who it is. MTV is a big name and it will be good whoever comes.”
The event will feature one headline act plus three support acts from MTV’s pool of artists.
Tickets for the event are still available at local outlets and online at www.ticketmaster.co.uk
The concert has come about due to work by local events company Legacy Promotions Iona Ltd who have worked in partnership with MTV.
